Unleash Your Soul (Aug 9)

Free yourself from photo references and paint with abandon while inventing your own painting style.  This workshop will empower you to find your voice and create art that reflects your soul while experimenting with soft pastel alongside: watercolor, pencil, odorless turpentine and various papers.

This is not your average art workshop.  It is a tactile sensory experience with a unique perspective on what it means to be an artist.  It is full of support, loads of experimentation and lots of fun.

Goals:

• Learning to use mediums in different ways

• Enhancing your artistic vocabulary

• Choosing color palettes comfortably

• Working intuitively

• Exploring line making

• Inventing your own artistic style

• Becoming confident with the subject at hand as well as this medium

• Discovering how to use photos as reference materials

Student Supply List:

• Basic 12-color box of Soft Pastels (NOT oil pastels!)  A box with a larger pastel stick count is welcome.  (Recommended pastel brands:  Diane Townsend or Terry Ludwig Pastels)

• 1- (or more) sheets of Canson Sanded paper any color

• Canson XL series mixed media pad in any size

• #2 pencil

• Artists tape or blue painter’s tape

• 4 bulldog clips that clip comfortably around half of the pages in your Canson XL mixed media pad

• Watercolors (at least 8 colors any brand)

• Hypoallergenic/odorless turpentine

• White acrylic gesso (8-12 oz)

• Acrylic Matte Gel Medium (small container)

• Various paint brushes in small to larger sizes

• Your own photographs of landscapes, skyscapes and/or treescapes

• Can of a pastel final fixative (not a workable fixative)

• Container of Wet Ones or Baby Wipes to easily clean your hands

Optional:

• Dust Mask which will provide adequate protection against dry pigments and most dusts

• Disposable Latex Gloves for protecting your hands from pastels

• Newspaper, glassine, or kraft paper to protect your paintings during transport

• 2 sheets of 22” x 30” cardboard taped together on one side (so that you can transport your paintings safely

• Paint palettes

• Bottle for Water

• Magazines/books

• Stamps and stamp pads

• If you choose to do so, sheets of black colored Rising Stonehenge paper will be available for purchase from the instructor at a cost of $10.00 per 22” x 30” sheet.
