 Description:

Learn to create your own evocative landscape paintings full of vivid color and in your own expressive style.  This fun pastel painting workshop will include tips to help you paint 20 paintings from your imagination as well as ways to simplify and loosen up.

Ready to gather inspiration from your own landscape photographs?  With many demonstrations, experimentation, and plenty of individual instruction, you will learn Kathy’s techniques for achieving a painting that will knock the socks off of the viewer.

Goals:

Learning to fingerpaint with soft pastel through layering and blending techniques

Experimenting with different color palettes to create emotion

Creating compositions that direct the eye

Becoming confident with the subject at hand as well as in the use of this medium

Comfortably producing paintings from the imagination

Recognizing elements of design in works of art

Acquiring skills to quickly produce intimate works of art

Student Supply List:

Basic 12-color box of Soft Pastels (NOT oil pastels!) A box with a larger pastel stick count is always acceptable. (Recommended pastel brands: Diane Townsend or Terry Ludwig Pastels)

2 – (or more) sheets of paper (Recommended paper brand: Rising Stonehenge in any color

Your own photo Imagery of landscapes that dramatically speak to you

Can of a pastel final fixative (not a workable fixative)

Container of Wet Ones or Baby Wipes to easily clean your hands

Optional

Dust Mask which will provide adequate protection against dry pigments and most dusts

Disposable Latex Gloves for protecting your hands from pastels

Newspaper, glassine, or kraft paper to protect your paintings during transport

2 sheets of 22 x 30 cardboard taped together on one side (so that you can transport your paintings safely
